English as a foreign language
When English is a foreign language, vocabulary, irregular verbs and grammar rules are what you can memorise. Lumi asks them back, but speaking and listening need real practice.

How to turn this subject into cards
Make one note per vocabulary list, irregular verb or grammar rule, with the form, an example and the usual trap, such as countable and uncountable nouns or the present perfect. Lumi quizzes these as gap questions. For vocabulary, retesting a word you already know has more effect than studying it again (Karpicke and Roediger, 2008). The classic trap is recognising a word when you read it without being able to produce it when you speak. So answer by writing or saying the word, not by picking it. Lumi fixes the basic material.
