Study by subject

Biology

Biology has a huge vocabulary, and each term points to a structure, a mechanism or a function. Lumi has you restate each from memory at the right moment, before you forget it.

How to turn this subject into cards

In biology, make one card set per structure or process and always separate the name, the function and the location. A mitochondrion, a ribosome, an enzyme, each should have those three answers. For long pathways, such as glycolysis or protein synthesis, write the steps in order on one card, then practise retrieving them. The typical trap is knowing the word but not its role, or mixing up two close terms like transcription and translation. Lumi quizzes you both ways, name to function and function to name. Studying as if you had to teach someone produced a more organised recall (Nestojko et al., 2014).
