United Kingdom

UCAT

The UCAT is the aptitude test asked for by many UK medical and dental schools. Lumi helps with methods to remember, not with decision speed.

In short

The UCAT is a computer-based test used by many UK universities for medicine and dentistry. It assesses abilities rather than course knowledge, with subtests on reasoning, reading situations and judgement. It is taken before you submit your application, and each university decides how to use it. The format and subtests can change, so check the official UCAT site for the current version.

What goes on your cards

The UCAT is not revised like a course. It is about going fast and accurately on reasoning questions, which comes from timed question banks. It can help you remember your quick calculation methods, your rules for reading charts, your strategies for triaging questions and your frequent mistakes, one card per method.

A study rhythm

Practice a little each day over several weeks rather than in one block the week before. Spreading sessions works better than cramming them together (Cepeda et al., 2006). Reserve full timed sessions to get used to the real length.
